Course DescriptionVisual arts education inspires and influences; it challenges and excites, promotes imagination and is a lifelong companion. The Upper Elementary Art classes provide maximum opportunity for exploration of varied media, including drawing, painting, photography, textiles and sculpture. Students learn basic art making skills while developing critical and creative thinking skills to solve problems and make meaning of their world. Their experience is further enhanced by the integration of art history, art criticism, technology and aesthetic critiques. Students look at, talk and write about art, not only from different cultures and times, but their own art and art of peers as well. Students will also establish a continuing portfolio for the purpose of recording visual work; review of art vocabulary/concepts, and for assessment of growth.
The Upper Elementary Art curriculum is part of a spiral approach at Wausaukee Elementary, in which concepts and techniques are revisited repeatedly over months and across grades. Our Art curriculum is closely aligned with the Wisconsin State Standards for Art and Design, as well as the National Art and Design Standards. |
